Eyes on the Prize (song) : ウィキペディア英語版
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

"Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" is a folk song that became influential during the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and '60s. It is based on the traditional song, "Gospel Plow," also known as "Hold On," "Keep Your Hand on the Plow," and various permutations thereof.
The earliest documented reference to the older song, "Gospel Plow," is in Alan Lomax's 1949 book "''Our Singing Country''."〔Lomax, John and Alan, ''Our Singing Country, A Second Volume of American Ballads and Folk Songs'', The Macmillan Company, New York, 1949. p 44 - 45

Roud Folk Song Index
http://www.vwml.org.uk/search/search-roud-indexes?qtext=10075&ts=1377893044534&collectionfilter=RoudFS;RoudBS#record=1〕 The book references a 1937 recording by Elihu Trusty of Paintsville, Kentucky which is in the Library of Congress (Ref No .1397 A1). Lomax's references for Gospel Plow also cite two earlier works. The first is from ''English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians'' 〔Sharp, Cecil J., and Campbell, O., English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians. 2 vols. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1917. Vol. 2 p. 292
Internet Archives - https://archive.org/details/englishfolksongs00camp〕 published in 1917, indicating that Gospel Plow dates from at least the early twentieth century. The second reference is to a 1928 book, ''American Negro Folk-Songs'',〔White, N. L, American Negro Folk-Songs. Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1928. P115
Google Books - https://books.google.com/books?id=WCuuV-kRe70C&pg=PA31&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=3#v=onepage&q&f=false〕 which shows an African-American heritage for the original song.

(==== Eyes on the Prize ==== )

Paul and Silas, bound in jail
Had no money for to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Paul and Silas began to shout
The Jail door open, and they walked on out
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
The only chain that a man can stand
Is the chain of hand in hand
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Got my hand on the freedom plow
Wouldn't take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, darling
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Hold on (hold on), hold on (hold on)
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
(==== Hand On the Plow ==== )
Hold on, Hold on
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on
Hold on, Hold on
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on
Heard the voice of Jesus say
Come unto me, I am the way.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
When my way gets dark as night,
I know the lord will be my light,
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
Hold on, Hold on
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on
You can talk about me much as you please
the more you talk, gonna stay on my knees.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
When I get to heaven, gonna sing and shout
Be nobody there to put me out.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
I know my robe's gonna fit me well,
I tried it on at the gates of Hell.
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on.
Hold on, Hold on
Keep your hand on the plow, hold on
